Here is a great article about the self-empowering of the unemployed in Argentina through picketing of transport routes through the country as a way of gaining input into the political system.  What seems really invigorating about the movement is their use of governmental support, however low it is, to set up self-sustaining sources of income that are the beginnings of a parallel system that may eventually provide an alternative to participating in the neo-liberal economic model.  Also encouraging is the horizontal participative model that entails members in a weekly meeting to decide on their actions:
